Route del Ferro i del Carbó

The route connects Ripoll, at an altitude of 682 meters, with San Juan de las Abadesas (775 m). The entire route is paved and is flanked by vegetation; the total unevenness is 160 meters and there is a gentle slope of 1%.

This section of the road begins at kilometer 9, in front of the old San Juan de las Abadesas station building. Leaving the station, about 300 meters away, the road crosses the Ogassa road and begins to gently ascend through the Malatosca valley, a tributary of the Ter river that rises in the Sierra Caballera.

LAND OF COUNTS AND ABBOTS
.

Tierra de Condes y Abades has as its main heritage elements the monasteries of Ripoll and San Juan de las Abadesas, which make up one of the most important ensembles of medieval art and architecture in the country, as well as the Montgrony sanctuary. In its surroundings, a network of facilities and interpretation centers has been built, which aim to enhance, explain, document, interpret and disseminate a territory steeped in history, with high-level museum and educational resources. Beyond its great historical significance, the Ripoll monastery, founded by Wifredo el Velloso in 879, is one of the most important Romanesque monuments in Catalonia. The 12th century portal, conceived as a triumphal arch, is the most important Romanesque piece, also known as The Stone Bible and a candidate for a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

THE WAY

EL CAMI is a cultural hiking route in the process of being signaled in a participatory way, to be done on foot and that runs through all the Catalan-speaking regions and islands. A journey through the culture, history, landscape and spirit of our land.

It is designed for all audiences and ages, with a mostly low level of difficulty, although there are sections of medium level and, even, some of high. The level can also be increased each one to your liking by increasing or reducing the length of the stages. It connects the towns, which is where the social reality, culture, art, are mainly found ... It unites all the ends of the Catalan-speaking region, taking an irregular 8 shape.
